Karua, Kalonzo grace Nassir's inauguration as Mombasa governor

The event will cost Sh6 million according to the Assumption of Office Committee.

Top Azimio leaders led by Nack Kenya leader Martha Karua and Wiper party boss Kalonzo Musyoka on Thursday witnessed the swearing-in of Abdulswamad Nassir as Mombasa governor. 

The event took place at the Mama Ngina Waterfront Park in Mombasa.

Nassir took the oath of office alongside his deputy Francis Thoya.

Nassir won the seat after garnering 119,083 votes against his closest rival, former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar of UDA who got 98,105 votes after the delayed August 28 polls. 

Justice George Dulu and Martha Mutuku the Mombasa High Court chief magistrate will presided over the swearing-in ceremony. 

The inauguration event cost Sh6 million according to the Assumption of Office Committee.

Other leaders present include outgoing Mombasa governor Hassan Joho and his deputy William Kingi, senators Mohammed Faki (Mombasa), Ledama Ole Kina (Narok), Nairobi Women Rep Esther Passaris, Mohammed Zamzam (Mombasa) and Fatuma Gedi of Wajir.

Nominated Jubilee MP Sabina Chege, Mishi Mboko (Likoni), Rashid Bedzimba (Kisauni), Mohamed Soud Machele (Mvita), Badi Twalib (Jomvu), Omar Mwinyi (Changamwe) and Mombasa county assembly speaker Harub Khatri were also present.
