A 23-year-old mason died after a stone hit him at a construction site in Nairobi’s Pangani area.

Patrick Mutui was at a site with other workers when a huge stone dropped from the 13th floor of the structure and hit him in the head.

Witnesses said the victim was on the ground floor of the house when the incident happened Monday afternoon.

Efforts to save his life did not bear fruits as he was pronounced dead on arrival at Mama Lucy Hospital.

Police were called to the scene of the accident and declared investigations had been initiated to establish what happened.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending probe into the incident.

Such tragic incidents are common at sites in the city leaving tens of workers dead.

There have been almost zero efforts by authorities to address the menace blamed on contractors who do not provide their workers with protective gear.

This has put the National Construction Authority and county officials on the spot for failure to implement rules to protect the workers.

An official at NCA said they have been visiting sites and making reports that are being implemented.

Meanwhile, a suspected burglar was electrocuted as he and his accomplices tried to climb a perimeter wall in Kitengela.

Police and witnesses said six men tried to climb a perimeter wall into Micha Park Estate when one of them was electrocuted by an electric fence around it.

In Nakuru’s Rhoda estate, a man was electrocuted in his house. The victim had taken shower in his bathroom and went to pick up clothes from a metal box when he was electrocuted. Police later learnt the box had been attached to a live wire.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending further probe.
