Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua did not dance around with words during his inaugural speech as Kenya's deputy president.

Gachagua said they have taken over when the economy is deteriorated and they will have to start from scratch.

"The truth of the matter is that we have inherited a dilapidated economy that is almost facing an economic shut down, we have 10 billion public debt, six million Kenyans have no employment we have  a demoralized public service," he said.

He said the out going government left a country with a bloated economy which President William Ruto's administration would struggle to revive.

"We have talked to the treasury, and the coffers are empty. We will have to start from scratch," he stated.

Gachagua further said the people of Kenya are now free. 

"I want to tell the people of Kenya that you are finally free. You don’t have to talk with each other through WhatsApp for fear of being recorded and persecuted by state agencies," he said.
