Kakamega deputy governor Ayub Savula has claimed that he is a co-governor.

He alleged that the county has been divided into a 50/50 share between him and Governor Fernandes Barasa.

“Let nobody cheat you that Savula went back to being the deputy, no. We have divided the county government of Kakamega into two, Barasa has taken half and I have taken half,” he said.

Savula said the ministries in Kakamega will be divided equally among them.

He recently said that he was forced to support the Azimio coalition against his wish.

He said that he joined President-elect William Ruto after being re-elected as Lugari MP in 2017 but shortly after, he was arrested together with his two wives as a way of intimidating him.

“I was arrested at 2 am in a hotel. The same night my two wives were arrested from their houses, one at 3 am and another at 5 am, on allegations that we had stolen Sh1.5 billion from the government. It turned out there was no evidence to support the case,” Savula said.

“It was also alleged that I had not remitted tax amounting to Sh0.5 billion to Kenya Revenue Authority, and they froze all my accounts to pin me down. I went through hell.”

He said senior officers told him that he would be pardoned if he stopped supporting Ruto and instead backed Azimio-One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
