Biden announces Delegation to attend Ruto's inauguration

The presidential delegation will be lead by United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai.

United States President Joe Biden announced the presidential delegation that will attend President-elect William Ruto's swearing-in.

In a statement released on Saturday, Biden said the presidential delegation will be led by United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai.

The other members of the delegation are:

United States Ambassador to the Republic of Kenya Meg Whitman, Colin Allred the United States Representative Texas, the Honorable Mary Catherine Phee, Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of African Affairs, U.S. Department of State and Monde Muyangwa, Assistant Administrator for the Bureau for Africa, U.S. Agency for International Development.

Other presidents from various parts of the world have also confirmed their attendance.

They are Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, Rwanda’s Paul Kagame, South Sudan’s Salva Kiir and Somali’s Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who were the first to congratulate Ruto after IEBC declared him the winner are also expected.

Officials from Ruto’s office privy to the arrangements told the Star that they have received acknowledgement notes from some other presidents who have promised to send their representatives.

The 77th high-level United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) which is set to open on the same day-September 13, in New York, the officials said is likely to affect the travels of other World leaders who had shown interest in attending.

Ruto will be sworn in on September 13 at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The day has since been gazetted as a public holiday.
