Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has refuted reports that he is among county bosses who want to chair the Council of Governors.

In a statement on Saturday, Sakaja said Nairobi needs his full concentration.

"To put the record clear, I am not presenting myself for election as Chair of COG. The task in Nairobi requires 100% dedication and focus. Would’ve been professional if the journalist checked with me," he said in a tweet.

His clarification followed a report by Daily Nation that named him among new governors who have shown interest in the position.

Others names in the report include; Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Joe Ole Lenku (Kajiado), Ken Lusaka (Bungoma) and Mutula Kilonzo Jnr (Makueni).

This comes ahead of governors induction in Mombasa which is set to begin on Wednesday through to Saturday next week.

The leadership of the CoG is expected to open another battle front between Azimio la Umoja and Kenya Kwanza coalitions, as they seek to control the powerful body.

Kenya Kwanza defeated Azimio in their quest to control both the Senate and the National Assembly, as Amason Kingi and Moses Wetang'ula carried the day in Speaker elections for the two Houses of parliament.
