The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has asked newly elected, nominated, appointed and exiting government officials to declare their wealth for audit.

In a statement on Thursday, EACC said wealth declaration will provide crucial information to law enforcement bodies.

It will also help in the recovery of unexplained wealth or corruptly acquired assets.

“We require each newly elected, nominated or appointed state officer, or any officer exiting government following the August election to declare their wealth, that of their spouses and children under 18 years,” the statement read.

EACC said that the officials have 30 days to declare their wealth.

Government officials will be required to explain the source of their wealth or lose it to the state.

The constitution allows EACC to store declarations, verify content, investigate breaches, take administrative sanctions, develop and implement administrative procedures.
