Nairobi MCAs allied to the Azimio camp have turned down an invite for a trip to Mombasa by governor Johnson Sakaja this weekend.

Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok said they won't be able to go for the trip because of the impending judgment on Raila Odinga's presidential petition.

"We have clear instructions from our coalition about that Sakaja caucus...we are still in court challenging presidential results and we have not time to discuss issues of assembly Speaker. He can do that with his UDA team," Imwatok said

Imwatok is the outgoing Minority leader at City Hall and is part of the Azimio la Umoja leadership in Nairobi.

Deputy Minority Whip Moses Ogeto (Kilimani MCA ) questioned the source of funds for the Mombasa trip organised by the new governor.

He said that Azimio-affiliate ward reps would not attend the caucus if the bill is to be footed by taxpayers' money.

"As Azimio MCAs we will really want to know whether taxpayers money was spent on people who have not been sworn in as MCAs,” Ogeto said.

He the caucus is an United Democratic Alliance matter.

On his part, Mountain view MCA Maurice Ochieng' urged the governor  to refrain from “sideshows” saying the caucus was hurriedly planned despite MCAs having not been sworn in.

"How can the governor call for such a caucus and we have not even been sworn in? What’s the hurry and our leaders are still in court?” he posed .

The County Assembly will have its first sitting on September 9 during which time they will elect a new Speaker.

Azimio will have majority representation in the House with 45 elected MCAs against Kenya Kwanza's 36.
