“Those include Ivy League schools which 20 of the scholars will be joining,” they said.

The 2022 Equity Leaders Programme (ELP) global airlift sponsorships are valued at Sh2.1 billion.

During the launch of the 2022 cohort, Equity Group’s chief executive James Mwangi officer said he was very proud of the programme and its cohorts.

He said that the cohorts will be joining some of the best schools in the world, which have been centres of excellence for a long time.

“Ivy Leagues are some of the best schools in the US and on average are 400 years old. They have been able to distill and have gotten better over the years,” he said.

ELP, one of the foundation’s flagship education programmes, was launched in Equity Bank Rwanda in 2021.

“ [A total of ] 32 scholars were picked for the programme and seven of the 32 are part of the cohort joining global universities,” they said.

“It is very delightful to see our scholars spread out across the globe and it goes to show the quality of the selection process, the scholars and those who prepared them,” Mwangi said.

He said the programme shows the type of contribution and effort put forward to empower young people across the continent.

He hoped the programme would inspire other scholars across Kenya to aim higher and tap into such opportunities.
