Sonko congratulates Nassir before official results are out

Nassir is commanding a lead in the five out six constituencies of Mombasa.

• Nassir is leading in Jomvu, Changamwe, Nyali, Mvita and Likoni constituencies with a total number of 97,286 votes.

• His UDA competitor Hassan Omar garnered 77,358 votes in the five constituencies.

Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has congratulated Mombasa gubernatorial candidate Abdulswamad Nassir for his win as voter tallying is ongoing.

Sonko took to Twitter to celebrate Nassir before the final official results were announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission. 

Nassir is commanding a lead in five out of six constituencies of Mombasa.

He is leading in Jomvu, Changamwe, Nyali, Mvita and Likoni constituencies with a total number of 97,286 votes.

His UDA competitor Hassan Omar garnered 77,358 votes in the five constituencies.

"Congratulations Abdulswamad Sharrif Nassir for your win as the second governor of Mombasa, we live to fight another day. I'd also like to thank all our supporters for believing in us and voting for our candidate Hassan Omar Sarai. Despite the loss, let's remain strong and even more united," Sonko tweeted.

Nassir was vying for the seat on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket.
