Police are investigating an incident in which a rotting body of a man was found in Lenana Forest, Nairobi.

The body was found in a thicket in the area by a man who was collecting firewood on Monday morning.

Police who visited the scene said the body seemed to have been dumped there a week ago and was decomposed beyond recognition.

Besides the body, lay a pair of gumboots believed to be belonging to the deceased.

The remains were moved to the mortuary pending identification and probe into the cause of the death.

Cases of bodies being found in forests have been on the rise.

Meanwhile, a man collapsed and died outside an eatery moments after he had bought food in Mwiki area, Nairobi.

Police say they were called and informed of the body at the scene long after the incident had happened. The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy to establish the cause of the death.

And two suspected thugs were Monday night killed in two separate incidents in Nairobi in the war on crime.

Police say one was killed in Lungalunga slums and a pistol was recovered from him while the second one was killed in Mowlem area and a homemade gun and motorcycle were found on him.

The suspects were killed by police who were alerted by locals about robbery incidents.

Police say they have increased patrols in the city to address rising cases of robberies.

Five other suspects were saved by police before being lynched by a mob in Shauri Moyo and Kasarani areas. The suspects are nursing wounds in hospitals.

Elsewhere, police are looking for a man who stabbed and killed another man in Kibra slums in an alleged stealing incident.

The assailant accused the deceased of stealing a television set from his house before he confronted him with a knife stabbing him in the chest. He died on the spot.

Police say they are investigating the incident.
