ODM's Fernandes Barasa has been declared the winner in the Kakamega governor race.

Barasa garnered 192,768 votes against his closest challenger Cleophas Malala of ANC who had 159,275 votes.

The election which was postponed twice by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) recorded a low voter turnout.

Barasa won in all the constituencies in the southern region and two others in the northern region, while Malala won in all constituencies in the central and northern regions.

The poll was characterised by voter bribery, intimidation and incidences of violence.

ODM has now stamped its authority in Kakamega having won nine of the 12 parliamentary seats, woman representatives and 48 out of the 60 MCAs in the August 9 general election.
