• In her replying affidavit to the presidential election petition filed by Azimio leader Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua, Cherera said Chebukati resulted in making her own decisions.
• She further said it was the reason they distanced themselves from Chebukati’s declaration of William Ruto as President-Elect.
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Vice Chairperson Juliana Cherera has accused Chairman Wafula Chebukati of turning the Commission into a one-man's show.
In her replying affidavit to the presidential election petition filed by Azimio leader Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua, Cherera said Chebukati resulted in making his own without consulting.
"By his actions and conduct, Chebukati mistakenly turned IEBC into a one-man show and in the process effectively subverting the constitution and the election laws," she said.
Cherera further said Chebukati was not open enough and did not issue necessary documents when asked upon.
"I requested Chebukati to furnish me with the list of IEBC pre-qualified advocates/Legal firms so I could issue necessary instructions but there was no response," she said.
She further said it was the reason they distanced themselves from Chebukati’s declaration of William Ruto as President-Elect.
The commissioner affirms that they would have had no problem with the results had the IEBC chair allowed for their verification.
She divulged that the IEBC Chair failed to convene a meeting to appraise the commission on the implementation of the recommendation of the report on the independent audit of the register of voters by KPMG.
Cherera further faulted Chebukati for failing to complete the recruitment of the director of voter registration and director of elections.
The IEBC vice chair also accused Chebukati of usurping the role of the chairperson commission legal Committee, ICT Committee and deputy C.E.O Operations in complete disregard of good corporate governance.
The affidavit also fingered Chebukati for issuing unilateral press statements without consulting the commission.
Besides, Cherera accused Chebukati of transferring returning officers without consulting fellow commissioners as would be the norm.
