Outgoing Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok has ruled out the possibility of a handshake, saying there will be no power-sharing deal in government.

Nanok, who headed President-elect William Ruto's campaign secretariat, has urged Azimio leader Raila Odinga to concede defeat and become opposition leader.

Raila rejected the presidential results announced by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati last week, saying he will file a petition in court to challenge Ruto's victory.

"People were defeated but they are still crying for sympathy of 'nusu mkate' government. It's not possible. Let the winners take charge of the leadership," Nanok said.

He spoke during the burial of his brother Thomas Nanok in Lodwar on Saturday.

Nanok said Ruto's administration will address water problems in Turkana by developing the aquifer project for commercial and domestic use.

He said Ruto's administration will invest in high potential sectors such as livestock and fisheries production.

“The government will invest in small businesses to create jobs, revamp and expand existing social programmes supporting vulnerable groups of people," Nanok said.

He said development funds will target hustlers and half of the money will go to women.

Nanok appealed to politicians who unsuccessfully contested the Turkana governor's seat-John Lodepe of UDA, Joseph Atol of Mabadiliko Party and former Petroleum CS John Munyes of Jubilee-to support Governor-elect Jeremiah Lomurkai's administration.

In the governor's race, Lomurkai of ODM bagged 66,631 votes, followed by Munyes with 41,866 and Lodepe 33,639.  Atol garnered 1,352 votes.

"The election is over and leaders should embrace one another to serve residents. I urge Lomurkai to work with all leaders to deliver services and development,” Nanok said.

“During my tenure as governor I made Turkana known to the world."

He said he will hand over an MoU with the Netherlands to Lomurkai to develop the blue economy at Lake Turkana.

Nanok, who was the director general of the presidential campaign team, is among the key faces behind Ruto's victory.

He chaired and coordinated the activities of Ruto's campaign.

In 2019, Nanok declared his support for Ruto’s camp, citing being sidelined by ODM when it came to “handshake” goodies.
