Political entrant in Nyanza politics businessman Joshua Oron has clinched the Kisumu central constituency MP seat.

Oron garnered 54,060 votes to floor incumbent area MP Fred Ouda who managed 26,104 votes as an Independent candidate.

Zablon Awange came third with 653 votes followed by Victor Radido who got 559 votes.

Brian Peterson and Eliud Opany finished fifth and sixth with 526 and 420 votes respectively.

In his acceptance speech, Oron thanked God, his family and team which stood with him throughout the campaign period.

"It's not been an easy path but my team who I started with walked with me all through this journey and I appreciate them."

Oron further stated that as the MP-elect, he will serve all the residents within the constituencies regardless of their political affiliation.

"I want to say that my competitor Ouda was and is still a worthy competitor and I would have not been here today without such a competitor."

Oron beat Ouda in the ODM nominations on April 13 to be the party's flag bearer in the Kisumu Central parliamentary race.

Ouda felt aggrieved with the outcome of the primaries and opted to defend his seat as an Independent candidate.

Kisumu Central constituency is the largest within Kisumu county with over 130,000 registered voters.

In the 2022 election, 82,358 people turned up to vote, translating to about 63.2 per cent voter turn out.

However, constituency Returning officer Yegon Kibos said the turn out was low.
