Voting has officially ended across the country with counting underway in various polling stations.

New Eastleigh Primary school in Kamukunji sub-county,  East Africa School of Aviation, Embakasi East and Ushirika Primary School, Embakasi North have officially ended the exercise.

Presiding Officers at the various polling stations sealed the ballot boxes with election observers confirming the process.

Poll officials at Eastleigh Primary school are currently on their final touches before counting starts.

The polls in the Kamukunji Constituency were marred by low voter turnout.

Voters also lamented the slow identification process through the use of Kiems kits.

Some voters also found it tough to look for their streams to cast their votes. In new Eastleigh, there were 17 streams.

At the same time, voting at the Komarock primary in Embakasi Central has been extended by 40 minutes.

This is to compensate for the time lost in the morning due to the initial failure of KIEMS kits.

A handful of people were still coming in to cast their votes even though most of the queues in the various streams were empty.

An official who has spoken to the Star has however decried low voter turnout estimating it to be at 60 per cent.

According to the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati, voters who will be on the queue at the time of closing the polling station will be allowed to vote.

The electoral body had announced that all polling stations will open on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Where there is a delay in opening or interruption in voting at a polling station, IEBC assured that the Presiding Officer shall extend the hours of polling by the amount of time lost.

The Commission will also ensure that every registered Kenyan voter gets a chance to exercise their right to vote for their preferred candidate
