The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chairperson Wafula Chebukati has urged Kenyans to be patient as they wait for the presidential results.

Chebukati said the commission is currently receiving the image of forms 34As from polling stations and will wait for the physical documents before they start tallying.

The agency has set five desks where verification of the received results will be done against the original documents.

Returning officers are expected to start delivering original forms from Wednesday for the verification exercise.

Speaking on Tuesday at Bomas of Kenya, Chebukati said the announcement of the president-elect has to be done within seven days after the voting exercise.

"I must mention that the law requires the commission to undertake verification of presidential election results and declare president-elect within seven days on conclusion of the polls," he said.

Chebukati exuded confidence that the commission will conclude the process and declare results within the seven-day constitutional timeline.

He said polls transmission had started after voting was closed in a majority of polling stations across the country.

As at 10.30pm, 26,881 out of 46,229 polling stations had successfully transmitted forms 34A.

“At the national tallying centre, we shall be doing verification of transmitted image of the result form 34As against the original form 34As,” he said.

He encouraged Kenyans to log into the IEBC public portal to access presidential results forms 34 As.
