IEBC officials in Naivasha prepare election materials at Naivasha Boarding Primary School ahead of transportation to the 297 polling stations in the vast constituency.

All polling stations in Naivasha are covered by 3G and 4G networks according to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

This will make transmission of results easier unlike other areas as the commission exuded confidence of conducting a free and fair election in the constituency that has a total of 297 polling stations.

This came as it emerged that the constituency had received all the ballot papers apart from the presidential ones which are expected over the weekend.

According to the Naivasha Returning Officer Agnes Muriuki, they had not recorded any challenges ahead of the long awaited exercise.

Addressing the press at Naivasha Boarding Primary which is the constituency tallying centre, Muriuki said of the close to 3,000 officials hired for the elections, 594 were police officers.

“Among the personnel we have hired for the elections include 1,788 clerks and all the involved officials have been trained,” she said on Friday.

Muriuki added that all the polling stations in the town were connected to 3G but was quick to add that they had back-up in case this failed.

“We are currently engaging transporters so that the voting materials can be at the polling stations a day before the exercise which is set for next Tuesday,” she said.

On Naivasha prison which has over 400 registered voters, Muriuki said there would be three streams at Naivasha main, medium and women prisons.

She noted that some of the inmates had been set free and others transferred, adding that only those who had registered within the facilities would be allowed to vote.

Among the candidates for the Naivasha seat are Jane Kihara (UDA), Antony Rebo (ODM), Ndegwa Nguthiru (Jubilee) and former MP John Kihagi (independent).

Other candidates are Ann Wanjiru Njoki, Henry James Kinyua, Dr Muita John Muthiora (all independent), Karanja Raymond Mururi (Tujibebe party), Macharia Michael Mwaniki (NARC) and Nyaga Francis Ireri (National Vision Party).

Naivasha which has eight wards has a total of 157,128 voters.
