At least four staff members working for Lunga-Lunga MP Khatib Mwashetani have died in a road accident.

The accident occurred on Thursday evening along the Mombasa-Lunga-Lunga highway in Kwale county.

The four include one of the Mwashetani's drivers, and two security and media personnel.

According to Lunga-Lunga OCPD Peter Mutua Zimbi, the four were heading to Lunga-Lunga from Msambweni.

"It is believed that they were coming from a campaign meeting and were rushing back to Lunga-Lunga," he said.

Zimbi said the accident occurred following a tyre burst that made the driver lose control.

The OCPD said it was a Toyota Prado.

Preliminary police investigations revealed that the driver was speeding.

The vehicle rolled several times, about 50 meters away from the road.

The vehicle had carried five people.

Zimbi said three died on the spot while the fourth one was pronounced dead on the hospital arrival.

The police identified those who died on the spot as, Gilbert Karisa, Mwakupha Ndegwa and Mwanamisi Malumbo.

The other two who sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital were Siamini Bonzo and Sadiki Ndoro.

The dead bodies were taken to Msambweni hospital.

Zimbi has cautioned residents and motorists to be careful while driving.

"I would tell them to avoid speeding and be keen while using the road," he said.

He also called on residents to observe safety while going for campaigns and voting.

The accident come barely two weeks when 20 people lost their lives in Samburu along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway and one at Kombani on the Mombasa-Lunga-Lunga highway road accidents.
