Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his Kenya Kwanza counterpart William Ruto celebrated 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala for winning Kenya's first gold in Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

In a statement on Thursday, Raila took to Twitter to congratulate the 100 m sprinter saying that he has been consistent and focused.

"Africa’s fastest man, a son of our soil, Ferdinand Omanyala, you have made our entire nation proud. Your victory exemplifies the results of focus, courage, consistency, and sacrifice. Congratulations!"  Raila tweeted.

Ruto said that Omanyala has made his country and the entire African region proud.

"Kenya’s gem and Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala gets gold at the Commonwealth Games, clocking 10.02 seconds. What a man! We are proud of you," Ruto tweeted.

Omanyala clocked 10:02 seconds to bag Kenya's first gold in the ongoing Commonwealth Games.

Akani Simbine from South Africa finished second after running in 10.13 seconds to take silver as Sri Lankan Yupun Abeykoon took bronze in 10.14 seconds.
