The National Authority Against Drug Abuse has advised the youth against indulging in substance abuse and drug use during the electioneering period.

CEO Victor Okioma on Wednesday took issue with Roots party presidential candidate George Wajackoyah's advocacy for bhang saying the agenda goes against the Constitution.

"As an authority we have taken our position, and our stand is that anti-narcotic Act is still vibrant and those young people who will be persuaded by politicians to indulge in the offences around the Act will face the law,'' Okioma said.

He was speaking during the Youth Leaders Forum on Peaceful Elections.

Okioma said Wajakoyah hasn't elaborated the requisite legal guidelines that must be followed prior to the  legalisation of bhang.

He urged the youth to stay away from drugs and report cases of drug and substance abuse during the electioneering period.

In a previous TV interview, Wajackoyah argued that if Kenyans are allowed to grow bhang for export, it would increase money circulation in the economy, claiming that a sack can fetch as much as $3.2 million (Sh380M).

"The solution for the national debt is growing marijuana which will enable this country to clear all the outstanding debt," Wajackoyah said.
