This was both from the two houses of Parliament by the country's major political parties.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto, and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga-led parties nominated close allies and key party officials.

Jubilee Party nominated Uhuru’s elder sister Kristina Wambui to the Senate.

In a party list published by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Kristina is listed second among 16 women the ruling party has settled on as its nominees to the legislative house.

Kristina, 70, also known as Kristina Pratt, has no previous political history despite coming from one of Kenya's top political families.

Other prominent women nominated alongside Kristina are Uasin Gishu Senator Margaret Kamar,63, and Ann Kananu, the current Nairobi governor.

Raila’s ODM party has for its part fronted Suba South MP and Minority leader John Mbadi, Irene Mayaka, Nominated Senator Rosa Nyamunga and Busia woman MP Florence Mutua to the National Assembly.

The party also intends to reward two of its fierce youthful defenders Fikirini Katoi Kahindi and Hezena Lemaletian with seats in the Senate.

Kahindi was kicked out of Maasai Mara University and later at Pwani University where he was a student leader. He has been a rights crusader.

Notable names in Ruto’s UDA National Assembly list include Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru and Starehe MP Charles Njagua alias Jaguar.
