Kenyans will from Tuesday be able to inspect the voter register at their polling stations, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has said.

IEBC vice chairman Juliana Cherera said voter registers will be displayed on notice boards at the polling stations for Kenyans to confirm the places where they will cast their ballots.

“Kenyans will get the opportunity to confirm where they will cast their votes in their locations before the actual day,” Cherera told a press conference at the Bomas of Kenya, Nairobi.

The vice chairperson said distribution of election material to the counties started on Monday.

“We want to thank the Ministry of Education for closing the schools early enough because these institutions, especially primary schools, form the bulk of our polling stations,” she said.

Cherera said all ballot papers will be in the country by Wednesday.

“It will be the last batch of papers. Immediately we get them, they will be dispatched to the constituencies and then to the polling stations,” she said.

The polls official further said IT experts from political parties have been regularly visiting IEBC warehouses to inspect Kenya Integrated Election Management System kits.

“We have been doing this together so we do not have any suspicion of pre-loading of the kits,” she added.

The vice chairperson said two officers will be deployed per polling station. She said the officers have already been trained.

Cherera said the commission is currently training presiding and returning officers. “We are training them before we dispatch them with the materials they need to carry out their duties.”

On the saga involving three Venezuela nationals, Cherera declined to respond to questions.

“The matter was settled so there is no point in discussing it,” she said, without elaborating.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the IEBC last Thursday agreed to their end row over the arrests of Venezuelan nationals. They pledged to work together to resolve their differences away from the public eye.

The two agencies had clashed following the arrest of Joel Gustavo Rodríguez García, Camargo Castellanos Jose Gregorio and Salvador Javier Suarez at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on June 21.

DCI boss George Kinoti, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai called a press conference and said the matter had been resolved.

He did not elaborate on the resolution.

Cherera said they are also looking into a leaked audio in which Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party secretary general Junet Mohamed is purportedly heard planning a "high level meeting" with officials from the IEBC.

Junet has dismissed a leaked audio as a fake and an act of malice from certain individuals who are against him.

“We are aware of the clip doing the round, but as so far [as we are concerned], nothing can be confirmed.  We are still looking into the matter,” Cherera said.
