A man accused of stealing his neighbour's one-year-old child when the mother was fetching water has been charged.

Emmanuel Otieno Ochieng was charged before Kibera chief magistrate Ann Mwangi where he denied the charges.

The charge sheet says that he committed the offence on July 29 at the Olympic area in Kibera within Nairobi county.

The child L.A belonged to Selina Awour who was his neighbour,  lawyer Rono told the court during bond term mitigations.

According to the court papers, the mother of the child had left the child at the door as she fetched water only for the accused person to pass by and commit the offence.

The child was recovered after a good Samaritan spotted the accused person with the child at the road where matatus used to pick and drop passengers.

In court, the accused person through his lawyer pleaded for a lenient bond term.

Rono told the court that the accused person was not a flight risk and was ready to abide by all court rules.

She mitigated that the accused person has no other previous criminal records.

The Magistrate released him on Sh200,000 bond or a cash bail of Sh100,000.

She directed that the case proceeds on August 16.
