The Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) will become the second largest power supplier to Kenya Power after the KenGen Hydros Eastern Cascade.
This is after Kenya Power formally executed its Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Ethiopia on Thursday at Stima Plaza.
"The agreed deal will see Kenyans enjoy power at a lower cost. EEP will be the second largest power supplier to KPLC," Kenya Power Managing Director (Ag.), Eng. Geoffrey Muli.
EEP signed the agreement to actualize power trade between the two countries.
The director noted that the power from EEP will cost about Sh6 and Sh7 seven cents per kilowatt in an hour.
Muli said the deal is expected to cut down the expensive power cost and capacity charges.
"The supply will have a capacity of 600MW and cost as little shillings as possible," Muli said.
He added the deal will be effective from 1st November 2022.
Ethiopian Electric Power CEO, Eng. Ashebir Balcha was also present.
