Confusion as Farah Maalim escapes IED attack in Liboi

The IEDs have since been destroyed by explosive experts.

Police are currently combing Liboi area in Garissa county after an IED exploded within the area.

According to the police, a herder signalled the police of some strange activity in the area.

"Dubow Ali was grazing his livestock along Kulan-Liboi road at Wardeglow when he saw electric cables/ wires protruding from the surface of the main road,” police said.

Police said a security team from Liboi police station visited the scene and established that there were two IEDs planted in the middle of the road.

The IEDs have since been destroyed by explosive experts.

But in a turn of events, former National Assembly deputy Speaker Farah Maalim claimed he escaped death narrowly after he evaded an improvised explosive device planted on the Liboi road.

He was on a campaign trail in Garissa County on Thursday, July 28. 

Maalim claimed that the device targeted his convoy, which was headed to the Liboi region.
