Food handlers to acquire certificate from 5 approved labs - NMS

The Nairobi Metropolitan Service issued a public notice to food handlers on Tuesday requiring them to have a Medical certificates by NMS.

Food handlers and their employers are required to be verified by the Nairobi Revenue Services in order to get their health certificate.

The certificate will be mandatory if the food handlers wish to continue operating their businesses. The certificate will only be obtainable from verified laboratories.

"Only Nairobi Metropolitan services approved and Nairobi Revenue Services generated Food Handlers Medical certificate will be accepted for compliance," Director general Mohamed Badi said.

The list of the qualified laboratories include: Mayfair Health services Limited, Quality Plus Laboratory and Consultancy Services Ltd, Medi Test Diagnostic Services Ltd, Corner House Laboratory Ltd, Jamhuri Medical and Laboratory Services ltd.

In a statement issued by Director of Health, Ouma Oluga, he stated that he seeks medical care at NMS facilities to ensure that the systems work.

"Recently I underwent a series of medical tests including a malaria test, blood sugar testing and x-ray imaging,'' Ouma said.

NMS has employed over 2,400 healthcare workers in addition to the existing 3,200 medical staff to ensure its smooth operation.

"A strong team of health care workers is essential in providing quality health care services, even in the face of a limited budget," he further noted.
