The teacher who was seen in a video punishing a student is under investigation, the ministry has sad.

Early learning and basic education PS Julius Jwan said the ministry will deal with the case.

Jwan questioned the motives behind punishing the student in such a 'cruel' manner.

"It is extremely cruel for a trained teacher to punish a learner. I don't think any normal teacher would punish a learner like that," Jwan said.

It is said the learner was being punished after he failed to get 400 marks in the school-based assessment.

Jwan said the school, learner and teacher have already been identified.

"The regional director and security officers are investigating the matter," Jwan said.

He also faulted school heads for sending home learners to bring motivation fees.

He said respective education stakeholders in the areas reported will be held accountable.

"We will hold field officers responsible because it's happening right in their presence," he added.
