Uhuru congratulates Kipyegon after 1,500m gold win

President Uhuru Kenyatta celebrated 1,500m World Athletics Champion Faith Kipyegon following her victory on Tuesday.

Uhuru described Faith as the worlds greatest 1,500m female athlete.

Kipyegon won Kenya's first gold medal in the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Oregon dominating the women's 1,500 metres.

"It is amazing and truly exciting to see how Faith won that race in style, earning her badge of honor as the world's greatest 1500m female athlete," Uhuru said in a tweet.

She clocked a time of 3:52.96 to reclaim the title she won in London in 2017 as Ethiopia's Gudaf Tsegay took silver with 3:54.52. Great Britain’s Laura Muir settled for the bronze with 3:55.26.

Kipyegon’s performance marks the 10th fastest time ever and is the 2nd quickest 1,500m run in the United States, clocking a time of 3:52.59 at the 2022 Prefontaine Meet.

President Kenyatta applauded the Kenyan contingent in Oregon for her strong performance so far.

He wished the athletes success in the remaining competitions.

Deputy President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga also congratulated the athlete.

According to Ruto, the former World champion had put on an incredible performance to reclaim her title.

He also congratulated Judith Korir, Stanley Mburu and Conseslus Kipruto who had earlier won Silver and Bronze.

"Incredible performance! Congratulations Faith Kipyegon for winning Gold and regaining your world 1,500M title. Well in Judith Korir and Stanley Mburu for clinching Silver on your respective races and Conseslus Kipruto’s Bronze," he said in a tweet.

Raila urged Kipyegon to keep on inspiring the youthful generation.

"Well done, what a powerful finish by Faith Kipyegon to take the 1500 M Gold medal. Congratulations! Keep running and keep inspiring our youth."
