Azimio presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua have assured Mombasa residents their administration will restore jobs at the port.

The former Prime Minister said the port activities would be restored in a plan  which involves bringing synergy between the Mombasa, Lamu, and Kisumu ports linked to the road, and railway network flowing from the coastal town.

Raila said during a campaign tour on Thursday that he would follow the Vision 2030 blueprint to achieve the intended seamless connectivity of the ports to the rail, and road infrastructure.

The ODM leader accused his competitor Deputy President William Ruto of double-speak on the port question, asking residents to refer to the DP’s remarks on the day of the launch of the Naivasha ICD.

He was responding to a call by Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir for his support to restore port services to Mombasa under the Azimio La Umoja leadership.

Nassir, who is the ODM candidate for the Mombasa top seat, cited that the Raila Odinga administration will ensure all the complaints of the Coast residents are addressed.

Karua for her part said the Naivasha people will get to benefit from the value chain, and that the ports will work without interfering with any other’s business activities.

The port question has featured in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s succession politics following recent plans by the government to contract private operators to run the facility.
