Since January this year, Radio Africa Group Ltd has been conducting Monthly national and select county opinion polls.
The intention has been to help politicians understand the pulse of the nation, and the public understand the candidates and their platforms as we head to the August 9 election.
In fact, so much has depended on opinion polling in politics in the past few months that virtually all major parties use poll results to pick their candidates and to plan their campaigns.
As is to be expected, the polls have elicited mixed reactions. The moment polls results are released, charges and counter charges about the credibility and authenticity of the results become the subject of heated public debate.
This reflects the high level of competition and reliance on polls by various political actors, in using the data as a campaign tool. It is not uncommon for politicians to use favourable findings in their election speeches.
We believe our opinion polls have reflected the opinions and expectations of a majority of Kenyans on various issues and have helped bring about meaningful political debate, which undoubtedly will strengthen our democracy.
As a result, Radio Africa has decided to conduct weekly national political surveys in the run-up to 9th August 2022.
The methodology used will be random; multi-stage stratified using PPS (proportionate to population size), spread across all the 47 counties.
A proportionate number of registered voters will guide sample splitsize in line with the official IEBC register 2022.
The total sample shall be 3,000 with a sampling error of +/- 1.8%. The data collection methodology shall be Computer Aided Telephone Interview (CATI).
The interview languages shall be English and Kiswahili. The research shall be funded and conducted by Radio Africa Group Limited.
The data collection and reporting of the polls results shall fully adhere to the Publication of Electoral Opinion Polls Act, No 39 of 2012.
