Five suspects who stole and slaughtered a cow from a herder in Jericho Estate in Nairobi have been arrested.

They were found slaughtering the cow near a church compound before they shared the meat among themselves.

Police said the herder had reported that his cow went missing on Sunday when he was driving his herd for pasture within the area.

It was until Monday at 3 am when locals told police some people were slaughtering a cow in the area.

Police said they recovered a knife the suspects were using in slaughtering the cow.

Upon interrogation, the suspects told police they were hungry, which prompted their action.

They are expected in court on Tuesday.

On Monday, police recovered 12 of 22 cows that had been stolen from a herder in an attack by bandits in Samburu.

The bandits escaped amid shootout in the area.
