A Wajir chief has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being found guilty of raping an 18-year-old girl on multiple occasions.

A statement by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutionon on Saturday said Chief Kalimoi Shale was also found guilty of circulating the victim's nude photos on social media.

This is after she refused to accept continuous abuse.

He was sentenced to 20 years in jail for sharing the obscene image of the 18-year-old  on social media.

The victim was also handed Sh500,000 as compensation.

Shale was also found guilty of using her position to force her to accept an out-of-court settlement.

The chief is said to have leveraged a cultural conflict resolution model common in North Eastern Kenya identified as Maslaha to seek an out-of-court deal.
