Kenyans should blame the ‘Handshake Government' of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga for the rising cost of living, Deputy President William Ruto said on Wednesday.

Ruto said the Big Four Agenda that was aimed at addressing food security through agricultural transformation and unemployment among other issues facing Kenyans was bungled after the two united and prioritized the building bridges initiative (BBI) which was unimportant.

“We have a big crisis in our country now and it is because the Big four plan was sabotaged by handshake shenanigans," Ruto held.

He added, "That is why we have millions of young people today without jobs who would have benefited from the housing program through jobs."

He pointed out that the fertilizer subsidy that was to help small-scale farmers in the country with their agricultural activities was abolished hence the current shortage of food which has pushed the prices of commodities high.

Campaigning in Kajiado on Wednesday, Ruto said President Kenyatta even shied from discussing the crisis in the country in his last public address because he is aware he erred.

“A two kilo of maize flour has never gone beyond Sh200 in our country something that has never happened in any time…in 2018 it was going for Sh75,” he said.

“If it was not for handshake we would not be where we are today, if Raila had a solution to this problem why did he fail to inform his handshake brother?” Ruto posed.

Party leaders Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), and Alfred Mutua (MCC) among other leaders accompanied him on the tour.
