Kenya's Covid positivity rate at 12.5% as 467 test positive

Kenya on Wednesday recorded 467 new Covid-19 cases from a sample size of 3,728 tested in the last 24 hours.

The Health Ministry said in a statement, that of the cases 362 are Kenyans while 105 are foreigners. 213 are females and 254 males, this brings the positivity rate to 12. 5 per cent.

The youngest is a one-year-old child while the oldest is 88 years old.

Nairobi accounted for 66 of the new cases, Nairobi 316, Kiambu 53, Bungoma 22, Nakuru 16, Siaya 16, Mombasa 14, Kilifi 6, Nyeri 5, Kisumu 3, Nyamira 3, Kajiado 2, Kirinyaga 2 and Uasin Gishu 2.

Busia, Kitui, Laikipia, Trans Nzoia and Taita Taveta had 1 case each.

Kenya's total confirmed positive cases are now 327,892 while cumulative tests conducted so far are 3,710,673.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said 112 patients have recovered from the disease, all from the Home-Based and Isolation Care Program.

"This pushes the total recoveries to 319,903 of whom 266,852 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation program, while 53,051 are from various health facilities countrywide," he said in the statement.

Fortunately, no patient has succumbed to the disease therefore the cumulative fatalities remain at 5,651.

There are 49 patients currently admitted to various health facilities while 2,289 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

No patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) but 3 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while 4 are on supplemental oxygen in general wards.

Vaccination Campaign

So far, Kenya has administered a total of 18,498,777 vaccines. Of these, 16,604,882 are doses administered to the adult population while 1,468,375 are doses administered to those between 15 to 17 years.

38,573 children below 15 years but above 12 years were also vaccinated.

The total number of vaccines administered in the last 24 hours is 18,926 while the total number of people fully vaccinated in the last 24 hours is 7,375.

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is now at 31.4 per cent.

The government is working towards vaccinating 27,246,033 people by December 2022.
