TikTok on Monday announced that it will start allowing creators to charge subscriptions for live streams.

This move has been added to rival apps like Facebook and Instagram and according to TechCrunch, the feature will offer subscribers a range of perks including subscriber-only chat, custom emotes badges, and more.

For creators to offer subscription plans, they have to at least have 1000 followers.

According to TikTok’s announcement post, you will have to be at least 18 years to either offer or purchase a paid subscription.

Subscribers will benefit from:

  • Subscriber Badges: Subscribers receive badges that are displayed next to their name on their profile and upgraded over time.
  • Custom Emotes: Subscribers get access to exclusive emotes custom-designed by the creators to use during LIVE sessions to bring the community together and make your sessions more spirited.
  • Subscriber-Only Chat: When the subscriber-only chat is turned on, creators and their subscribers have exclusive access to one another, enhancing an even more personal connection between creator and viewer.

LIVE Subscription will initially be invite-only for this month and then roll out globally over the coming months.
