Deputy President William Ruto on Tuesday pitched a tent in Kwale county in a bid to woo residents to back his bottom-up economic agenda.

Ruto had earlier held an economic forum event in Taita-Taveta.

In Kwale the DP will hold two rallies at Vigurungani Centre in Kinango and Kidimu in Lunga Lunga where he will be hosted by the areas' MPs Benjamin Tayari and Khatib Mwashetani respectively.

Governors Salim Mvurya (Kwale) and Amason Kingi (Kilifi) will also be present.

He is expected to popularize his Kenya Kwanza campaigns and sell the bottom-up economic model as a way of wooing voters.

On Thursday, Ruto will be having an economic forum event within Kwale whose venue is yet to be established.

He will be engaging residents and leaders on the challenges affecting their daily lives and how the area's economy can be effectively improved.

Tayari said the DP is in the region to discuss various socioeconomic issues.

Tayari said Ruto's love for the Kwale people is great and that's why he frequently visits the region.

"He is here for development related issues and not politics unlike others," he said.

Ruto has in this year visited the county more than five times.

Tayari said the DP has come due to the public demand.

He said residents are in love with his agenda.

Kwale Deputy Governor Fatuma Achani said Kenya Kwanza has gained massive support in the region.

She said it is no longer an ODM zone since people have bought Ruto's development agenda.

Achani said with the support of governor Mvurya, the UDA party has grown strong in Kwale.

Mvurya was chosen as the UDA party coast regional coordinator.

Two weeks ago, ODM leader Raila Odinga was in the region.

Raila campaigned at the doorstep of Mvurya's home at Mwavumbo in Kinango and later went to Msambweni.

In his tour, he asked residents to punish Mvurya for disrespecting him when he chose to support Ruto.

In 2017, Mvurya ditched the ODM party and went to Jubilee and later left Jubilee for the UDA party.

The DP is also set to have three rallies in Mombasa, three rallies in Kilifi, two rallies in Tana River, and one rally in Lamu County starting from Wednesday.
