Homa Bay gubernatorial aspirant Gladys Wanga has raised concern over what she says is an increase in political violence cases in the county.

The Woman Rep claims the violence appears to be well coordinated after goons attacked and injured nominated MCA Pamela Odira.

"We regret that Hon Odira sustained injuries  and had to be hospitalized following this barbaric attack," Wanga said.

She said Odira was attacked as she drove from a political rally in North Karachuonyo.

The legislator said the incident came just days after her convoy was stoned and people injured by hooligans in Homa Bay.

In a statement released on Monday through her campaign secretariat Genowa, Wanga called on her opponents to exercise political tolerance ahead of the August polls.

She asked the police to also investigate propaganda that the presentation of documents by aspirants to the IEBC offices in the county will be marred by violence.

Wanga is eyeing the Homa Bay gubernatorial seat on the ODM party ticket. Her running mate is former Kasipul Kabondo MP Oyugi Magwanga.

Wanga is seeking to succeed the outgoing governor Cyprian Awiti.

Former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero is also running as an independent candidate after ODM handed its ticket to Wanga.

"Le the public know that our campaigns are planned peacefully and executed with utmost calmness as we are sure the people are with us," Wanga said.

"We challenge our opponents to declare publicly that they will desist forthwith from sponsoring acts of violence which we fear would, in the long run, disenfranchise voters in our county," she added.

The MP asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and the county security team to reign in political violence in the county before things get out of hand.

"We will not be intimidated by criminal acts of violence being used as a tool of deterrence by individuals and groups who are panicking because they are well aware our victory cannot be obstructed," she said.
