Marende to launch Vihiga gubernatorial bid today

Former Nation Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende has arrived at Mumboha grounds to launch his campaign for the Vihiga gubernatorial seat.

Marende is also expected to unveil his running mate Humphrey Kisia.

The former Speaker is vying for the seat on DAP-K.

Before he was elected as the National Assembly speaker in 2007,Marende served as Emuhaya Member of Parliament. He was first elected in 2002.

He was re-elected in 2007 for the second term following a close contest from current Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo.

However, the lawmaker was elected as the speaker for August house in 2007 and served until 2013, when he lost to Justin Muturi.

Marende is set to use his political experience to battle out for Vihiga gubernatorial seat.

He will be facing incumbent governor Wilber Ottichilo of ODM, former Governor Moses Akaranga of Progressive Party of Kenya, Senator George Khaniri of UDP, Sabatia MP Alfred Agoi of Kenya Kwanza and Deputy Governor Patrick Saisi of the Equitable Party.

Those present include cabinet secretary for Defence Eugene Wamalwa among other aspirants on DAP-K within Vihiga County.

Trans Nzoia DAP-K governorship aspirant George Natembeya and party leader Wafula Wamunyinyi are also expected to attend the launch.
