The first cohort of junior secondary learners will study in day schools and not boarding, Technical advisor in the curriculum reforms department, Ruth Mugambi has said.
The students who will be domiciled in the available secondary schools will not be taken to primary schools.
The learners will be taught by trained secondary school teachers.
"Junior secondary program is a secondary school affair and students will be taught by teachers at the level," Mugambi said Monday.

On their part, KICD said they already created curriculum designs from PP1 to grade seven.
KICD is in the process of developing more course materials ahead of the full rollout.
Teachers' training on CBC is ongoing and is set to be completed by the end of this week.
Over 60,000 teachers in both public and private secondary schools are currently undergoing training.
A total of 229,000 teachers have, so far, been trained by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) across the forty-seven counties.
Construction of the second phase of CBC classrooms is also meant to be complete by the end of this month.
Deputy Director for Secondary Education Lawrence Karundini said the Ministry is keen to ensure secondary schools have enough infrastructure for learning.
Karundini revealed that out of the 6,495 new classrooms earmarked for construction, 5,000 units have been handed over to institutions.
The pioneer cohort is expected to sit Kenya Primary School Education Assessment this year.
Over 1.5 million of these students will then transit to junior secondary in January.
