Deputy President William Ruto is hosting an Iftar dinner at his official Karen residence on Wednesday to celebrate the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Iftar is an evening meal with which Islamic believers break their daily Ramadan fast at sunset.

Wednesday's Iftar will be at 6:34 pm in Nairobi.

Iftar is usually their second meal of the day after Suhur, the pre-dawn meal.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.

Muslims across the world observe it through fasting, prayer, reflection and community network.

Muslims are in their second half of the Holy Month.

During this month, Muslims are strictly expected to stick to praying and fasting while staying away from the consumption of ‘unholy’ substances.

This year's Ramadan marks the first physical meeting since Covid-19 struck in 2019.

The end of Ramadan month is marked by Eid-al-Fitr when people break their fast and celebrate with a feast.

The fasting month started on April 3 and is expected to end on May 2.
