All around the world people with disability suffer from discrimination that denies them the full enjoyment of their fundamental human rights.
According to the Constitution, they are entitled to reasonable access.
Access to quality and equitable education and access to all institutions and facilities.
The ironic twist is that disabled persons have continued to suffer from a lack of equipment such as wheelchairs, white cane (standing mobility cane), and braille equipment among other tools.
Furthermore, people living with disability have been isolated and discriminated against by people they adore most, such as family members.
This has posed a big challenge to them causing physical, mental and psychological stress.
This kind of torture makes them believe they are living in their world.
The good news for the disabled is that the national and the county governments in conjunction with the non-governmental organizations and the well-wishers have chipped in to rescue them from the challenges they are facing.
Although this has not mushroomed well in the other parts of the country, especially the interior.
The disabled have also managed to support themselves by forming self-help groups and they have joined organizations hence being able to be champions of themselves.
This kind of self-esteem has also enabled them to join in sports activities proving their ability.
It's high time for civil society to pressure groups government and private organizations to support people with disability to access equal treatment at all times.
In addition to that, the government should ensure they are provided with all equipment that supports and make their daily move smoothly.
Let's remember our efforts can change the world starting with good initiatives and policies toward supporting such people.
Let's help them realise their dreams. They deserve all the good things.
Disability is not an inability.
