UDA primaries start peacefully in North Rift despite delays

UDA nomination exercise was delayed in most parts of the North Rift region due to the slow distribution of voting material.

Voting, however, started peacefully in some areas like parts of Ainabkoi constituency in Uasin Gishu where the material was distributed early.

Party officials in the region led by Paul Kiprop said all systems had been put in place to ensure the exercise ran smoothly.

"We have had a few delays in distribution of ballot material but so far so good," said Kiprop.

He said the party was keen on ensuring peace in all areas during the voting exercise.

Key contests to watch include the governor race in Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Baringo counties, where top allies of DP William Ruto are participating.

Governor Stephen Sang is seeking the UDA ticket in Nandi against six aspirants, including former governor Dr Cleophas Lagat and lawyer Allan Kosgey.

In Elgeyo Marakwet, former IG Joseph Boinnet is battling out with deputy governor Wesley Rotich, among others, for the governor ticket.

Outgoing Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago is seeking to unseat Uasin Gishu Senator Margaret Kamar.

Mandago will battle it out with lawyer Kipchumba Karoli and former journalist Robert Kemei for the UDA senate ticket.
