Top 11 counties where locals are worst affected by poverty

Migori, Samburu, Busia and Siaya counties rank among the other top poor counties.

•The poverty rate in Kenya had been on a downward trend over the past 15 years.

•The State of Economic Inclusion Report 2021 noted that by 2030 an estimated 479 million people are projected to be living in extreme poverty globally.

Some 11 counties have been singled out as the poorest counties in the country.

The counties include Siaya, Migori, Bomet,  Marsabit, West Pokot, among others.

Kenya was last year ranked the third poorest lower-middle-income country globally in a study released by the World Bank.

The World Bank State of Economic Inclusion Report 2021 showed that more than forty per cent of Kenyans live in extreme poverty.

The level of poverty is approximately 10 times higher than in Pakistan and Egypt which are also categorised as lower-middle income economies.
