The Council of Elders from Uasin Gishu County are set to hold a cleansing ceremony where ODM leader Raila Odinga's convoy was stoned in Uasin Gishu.

The elders said they will hold the function after 40 days considering the family of Mzee Kibor is still mourning.

"As per our tradition, the family of Kibor is still mourning and we cannot do anything at the moment until after the 40 days," said elder Paul Tanui arap Tumbo.

The Kalenjin elders also apologized to the former prime minister over the unfortunate incident terming it as unpalatable.

"We apologize to Odinga and hope he will accept what we have said because he is also an elder like us," one of the elders said.

They said the opposition chief is a respected leader who did not deserve such a cruel treatment.

They further added that the incident is against their cultural beliefs as the Kalenjin community.

"In Kalenjin tradition what happened was an abomination. We had come here to mourn and no one should be attacked and hurt during a burial," the elder added.

Raila and his convoy were pelted with stones after they arrived at the home of Mzee Kibor on Friday for burial.

The ODM leader found the burial already done and went to give his condolences to the family.

It is while leaving the house that they were attacked leaving the windscreen of the chopper they had boarded to the home broken.
