National Police Service has condemned an incident in which a boda boda rider is suspected to have raped a foreign national.

In a statement, NPS says that the government will continue to reform and streamline the boda boda sector.

"We encourage the many hardworking and law-abiding boda boda operators to cooperate with the police to weed out undesirable elements who bring the sector to disrepute," NPS said.

NPS further appealed to the public who might have been victimized in the same manner within the areas of Langata and Ongata Rongai to liaise with DCI Langata or call police hotlines 911, 112 and 999.

"We condemn in the strongest terms all barbaric acts targeting innocent females," NPS added.

"NPS shall not relent in prioritizing such sexually and gender-based violence (SGBV) crimes."

The boda boda rider suspected of raping a foreign national was arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

In a statement, DCI boss George Kinoti said the suspect, Protas Onsongo, was arrested in Ngong while trying to flee from the city on Saturday.

"Protas Onsongo was seized by our agents this afternoon as he attempted to flee the city to evade arrest," he said.

According to DCI, Onsongo was arrested following a joint operation by detectives drawn from the elite Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau and the DCI Nairobi Regional command.
