Moses Kuria's message to Kalonzo after collapse of BBI

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has asked Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to trust Deputy President William Ruto now that the Building Bridges Initiative Bill has collapsed.

In a statement on Friday, Kuria said that Kalonzo cannot trust ODM leader Raila Odinga now that BBI is out of the picture.

He asked the former vice president to trust DP Ruto because he is someone who keeps his word.

"My good friend @skmusyoka Good morning. God still loves you. Now that you can't trust @RailaOdinga without BBI, it's time to trust someone whose word you can take to the bank like @WilliamsRuto," the Gatundu South MP said.

This comes a day after Kuria said he would back the BBI process if the Supreme Court allowed it to proceed.

He stated that its only problem was the process that was followed in actualising the constitutional amendment.

"The problem with BBI was never solely the substance, it was the process. The net effect of the Supreme Court ruling today will be a remedy to all the process maladies," Kuria said.

"If the SC rules in favour of BBI, that will cleanse the process. I will be at the forefront in pushing for immediate implementation."

The Supreme Court of Kenya on Thursday laid the final nail on the constitutional change process.

The seven-judge bench overturned five of seven grounds the Court of Appeal had used to annul the BBI.

Both the High Court and the Court of Appeal had ruled there are fundamental provisions in the Constitution that cannot be amended unless four sequential steps — civic education, public participation, constituent assembly debate and referendum — are followed. 

The BBI was to introduce the position of prime minister, two deputies, the leader of the official opposition in Parliament as well as have ministers appointed from among MPs.

It also proposed enhanced allocation of resources to counties from at least 15 per cent to a mandated 35 per cent.
