Police in Machakos are looking for a man suspected to have killed his girlfriend in Kalama subcounty on March 24.

The body of Faith Mutinda, 35, was discovered the next day after the suspected killer Harrison Muiva disappeared.

Muiva allegedly hacked Mutinda to death and went into hiding using her car. The car was later found abandoned in Makueni on March 30.

Mutinda was found in a pool of blood with deep cuts on her head and hands.

The man's parents Richard and Florence Muiva reported the matter to the assistant chief and later to Konza police station.

Konza police station officers and Machakos DCI officers arrived at the scene and sealed it off.

The body was taken to a Machakos mortuary where a post-mortem was conducted.

Police said the woman died of excessive bleeding due to multiple cuts.

Machakos subcounty criminal investigations officer Simon Waithaka said his officers were looking for the suspect.

He said his team will do everything possible to uncover how the woman died.

Waithaka called on members of the public who might have a clue on the whereabouts of Muiva to volunteer information to authorities.

He said his officers discovered a panga within the home.

Waithaka said it is believed the weapon was used to kill Mutinda.

A neighbour said the suspect was a loving and polite man and it was hard to believe he had committed the murder.

“We cannot explain why and how my son disappeared," Muiva's father said.

Richard and his wife Florence appealed to their son to come out of hiding and tell his story.

However, Mutinda's family demanded justice questioning why Muiva had not been apprehended.

“We are uncomfortable with how the suspect is at large,” Mutinda's brother Moses Musyoka and cousin Newton Musyoka said.

They said it was unfortunate that their sister who was in good health was found dead.

“No stone should be left unturned until whoever killed our sister is brought to book,” the two said.
