The DCI has urged the members of the public to avoid boarding vehicles ferrying passengers to routes different from those indicated on the vehicle’s body.

This comes after suspected robbers were arrested on Thursday after they robbed passengers in a Matatu of their mobile phones and other valuables.

“In a crime that is gaining currency in the city, the crew posing as genuine Matatu operators, sneak out PSV vehicles taken to garages for repairs and use them to illegally ferry passengers at night, before robbing them of their valuables,” DCI said.

Further, the DCI said the Matatus commonly referred to as ‘Usiku Sacco’ comprised unroadworthy vehicles, most of which operate without the required documentation.

“Meanwhile, detectives based at DCI Langata, contacted the owners of the phones recovered from the suspects, to record their statements before they face justice in a court of law,” DCI said.
