Police in Mombasa are looking for a gang that attacked a female police officer attached to Makupa police station and injured her before robbing her of her uniform, berretta, name tag and ceremonial belt.

The gang also escaped with other personal effects in the Tuesday 5 am incident.

She told police she was leaving her residence in Magongo area when she was confronted by a gang that was armed with machetes.

She sustained head and arm injuries during the robbery.

After the gang had escaped, the officer was rushed to hospital with injuries.

Police suspect the gang plans to use the uniforms to commit a serious crime and have heightened security and alertness.

Elsewhere, two police officers were arrested over a robbery with violence incident at a home of a man in Musoma village, Matungu, Kakamega County.

The officers had gone to the home of one Peter Nanyama and demanded to know the whereabouts of his son, but when they failed to get him, they demanded Sh150,000 at gunpoint.

They later grabbed the Sh13,000 that Nanyama had. Police were informed and laid an ambush on the two officers as they went to pick up more money from the complainant. The suspects were officers from a local police station.

They are expected in court to face robbery with violence charges.

Cases of police officers being involved in the crime have been on the rise. Some of them have since been arrested and arraigned while other cases are under investigation.

Police authorities say they can internally address such issues.
